Author George Fogelson is holding a walking tour of Home of Peace Jewish Cemetery at 11 a.m. July 29  followed by a book talk at the Museum of Art & History on his newest work, “May Their Memory Be a Blessing,” from 2-4 p.m. July 31.

“May Their Memory Be a Blessing” explores the history of the Jewish pioneers who began the Santa Cruz Jewish community including the story of the Home of Peace Jewish Cemetery where many of these pioneers are buried. The cemetery event will tour these graves, some of which date back to as early as 1877.

Interested individuals for the cemetery tour should meet at the front of the cemetery. The tour is free, and the book talk is free with museum admission. The museum’s address is 705 Front St., Santa Cruz and the cemetery is 401 Meder St., Santa Cruz.

The world, folk and soul music band Rising Appalachia will perform at the Rio Theatre from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. July 29.

Rising Appalachia is led by sisters Leah and Chloe Smith, and incorporates a wide array of instruments in order to reach their unique sound, from banjos to kalimbas to the didgeridoo.

Tickets are $35 ($40 at the door). The Rio Theatre’s address is 1205 Soquel Ave., Santa Cruz.

Famous bassist and member of funk metal band Primus Les Claypool will play at the Rio Theatre from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. July 31.

Claypool is widely considered one of the best bassists of all time, and has had success as a musician since the 1980s.

Ticket prices range from $40 to $50. The Rio Theatre’s address is 1205 Soquel Ave., Santa Cruz.

Blues singer and pianist Marcia Ball will perform at Kuumbwa Jazz at 7 p.m. Aug. 1.

Ball is a widely praised musician who has won “Contemporary Blues Album of the Year” several times.

Singer and songwriter Nellie Mckay will perform her newest album “Sister Orchid” at 7 p.m. Aug. 3.

In addition to releasing six successful albums prior to “Sister Orchid,” Mckay also worked on Broadway and won a Theatre World award for her role in “The Threepenny Opera.”

Local artists will display their work at Esplanade Park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 31. Items displayed will include painting, photography, sculpture, jewelry and more.

This event is free. Esplanade Park is at 120 Monterey Ave in Capitola Village and overlooks the Monterey Bay.

Billy Martini Show, a ’70s dance party band, will perform at Esplanade Park’s bandstand from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 3.

The band covers all the favorite hits from the ’70s, from songs from the Rolling Stones to AC/DC to The Sunshine Band and more. The Billy Martini Show even wears authentic retro outfits, ensuring their audience is truly transported back to the grooviest time in their lives.

This event is free. Esplanade Park is at 120 Monterey Ave. in Capitola Village and overlooks the Monterey Bay. No dogs or alcohol are allowed.
