Owning a large house has always been a key factor when it comes to living the American Dream. So it should come as no surprise that America has some of the largest homes in the world: The largest home in the U.S. is the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, which comes in at a staggering 175,000 square feet. This is a far cry from the median size home of 2,386 square feet that a majority of Americans live in.
The standard of living has certainly changed in the last 50 years. New homes today are actually 1,000 square feet larger than in 1973. And households are getting smaller too — according to the American Enterprise Institute, the average household size has shrunk to a record low of 2.54 persons per household as of 2015. That means the living space per person has almost doubled in just 42 years. No matter how much room you have, though, you probably think you could use a little more — but it will cost you.
To find the price of a 3,000-square-foot home in each state, GOBankingRates analyzed data from Zillow outlining the median list price per square foot for homes across the country. According to Zillow, the median list price per square foot in the U.S. is $155, making the cost of a 3,000-square-foot home about $466,129.
There are many states that fall significantly below this estimate — for example, the price of a 3,000-square-foot home in Mississippi is $180,121 less than the national average. A number of Southern and Midwestern states fall below the national average as well. The Northeast is another story, however, with a Massachusetts home this size costing a whopping $805,861. And Hawaii? Let’s just say you’re looking over $1.5 million. Find out how much you’ll have to fork over to afford a huge home in your state.

When Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla , speaks about the environment and the problems facing the automobile sector, industry actors listen. For many years, the billionaire worked hard to convince his peers, authorities and consumers that electric vehicles were the future. The tech tycoon has twice recounted these difficulties this year, in March to defend competitor Rivian and in April during a Ted Talk.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. President Joe Biden on Wednesday demanded oil companies explain why they aren't putting more gasoline on the market, sharply escalating his rhetoric against industry as he faces pressure over rising prices. Biden wrote to executives from Marathon Petroleum Corp, Valero Energy Corp, and Exxon Mobil Corp and complained they had cut back on oil refining to pad their profits, according to a copy of the letter seen by Reuters. "At a time of war, refinery profit margins well above normal being passed directly onto American families are not acceptable," Biden wrote, adding the lack of refining was driving gas prices up faster than oil prices.
The S&P 500 plunged into a bear market earlier this week for the first time since March 2020, sending many investors into a tizzy. This could present a buying opportunity, however.
It’s official: after this past Monday’s trading, the S&P 500 has joined the NASDAQ in a bear market. The index has fallen more than 21% year-to-date, not as deep a loss as the NASDAQ’s 31% but still enough to give investors indigestion. It also brings up a vital question: how to maintain the portfolio in a difficult stock environment? Enter Jim Cramer. The well-known host of CNBC’s ‘Mad Money’ program has never been at a loss for advice to give, and he’s come through once again. His word for sto

Inflation is on everyone’s minds these days, and for good reason. Annualized price increases are at their highest level in 41 years, and are evoking memories of the Carter Administration. Carter’s failed attempts to curb inflation killed his chances in the 1980 election, and Reagan’s Administration only beat inflation at the cost of double-digit interest rates. With an election coming up, an Administration flailing, and the Federal Reserve on course this week to bump up rates again, the parallel

The billionaire has never made a secret of his loathing for cryptocurrency.
MicroStrategy is famous for owning more bitcoin than any other publicly-traded company. MicroStrategy chief Michael Saylor believes so deeply in the promise of the primordial cryptocurrency that the company took out a $205 million loan from Silvergate Bank to buy $190 million worth of bitcoin in April. “Bitcoin needs to cut in half for around $21,000 before we’d have a margin call,” MicroStrategy president Phong Les said in May during an earnings call.
